A Week of Celebration!

I think each birthday is such a special opportunity to celebrate the life we've been given, so we made it a full week of fun in honor of WYATT...
Wy guy started off his birthday celebration with a cupcake party as school last Wednesday. We had fun baking and sprinkling his treats to take in to share with his friends. Then on Saturday, buddy Asher came in to town and we spent the day together and made a trip to Kaliedoscope! On Sunday, we visited the T-Rex Dino Restaurant for dinner! This is one of Wy's favorite places on earth. We stop in anytime we're at the Legends just to look around but this time he got the full experience of dining in!

Wyatt requested I take pictures of almost every dino in the restaurant. I figured 2 would be enough for you to get the idea...

Wy guy was a little perplexed by all of the unknown strangers singing Happy Birthday to him at the table.... But he sure loved the sweet treats they brought along with the birthday chorus! On Monday (3/14), Wy's actually birthday, we surprised him with one gift... an easel! It was almost impossible to get this little Van Gogh out the door once he began his masterpiece... I was finally able to convince Wyatt to take a ride to visit Mimi and Poppy at the Leaping Lizard where he enjoyed 3 hours of jumping fun! He then picked Panera for lunch. He loves their mac-n-cheese!
He received a couple of fun packages in the mail, including a coloring card from Grandma and Papa...
along with a Mickey Mouse T-shirt straight from Disney World (Thanks Ashtyn and Daxton)!
We finished the day by making and eating some ice cream cone cupcakes together!
Saturday was the BIG CARNIVAL CELEBRATION!!!! Here's our lil man putting on his circus attire waiting for all of his guests to arrive...
Is this not the cutest clown you've ever seen?
Time for candles and birthday cake!
Looking a little introspective...
Wyatt must have eaten too many hot dogs, nachos and popcorn because he didn't even touch his cake (til later, of course!)
But Isaac sure enjoyed his share!
And forced some into cousin Alexa's mouth as well! Hope she was hungry!
Wyatt had lots of helpers opening gifts with him and trying out all of the new toys!
It was a great day and I hope it etched a fun memory into Wyatt's mind! We love you little man and are so thankful for your life!!!!!!

Happy St. Patty's Day!

We got to have our annual GREEN meal with Papa and Grandma McCulley who were in town for Wyatt's birthday party this year! We ate pesto chicken with spinach tortellini, then had green milk shakes and green sprinkled cake balls for dessert! Wyatt and I read the story of who Patrick really was and broke out the paints and glitter for a fun art project. I love festivities and reasons to celebrate! : ) Here are my little Irish men...

Wyatt is THREE!!!

Today we are REJOICING in the BLESSING of our FIRSTBORN!

Can it really be? My firstborn baby boy is THREE! I have to note that Wy quickly corrects me when I call him my baby. "I'm not your baby boy. I'm a big boy, Mom!" He says. Yes, he IS becoming such a big boy but he'll always be MY baby no matter how big he gets! I often remind him that I will be entitled to refer to him as my baby boy forever!

Wyatt has such a genuinely sweet spirit and thankful heart. It is his saving grace many days and a very sweet encouragement to my soul during our 'trying' moments! He often says "I love you" and "Thank you for dinner, Mom" or "Thank you for taking me to ____." on his own accord without being prompted. Love covers a multitude of sins! He is pretty easy to love and forgive most of the time...
We've really noticed that he has a strong gift of encouragement. This is definitely a trait the Lord has worked into his being because it's not something that I'd say is a strong attribute in Joe or I. Wyatt is so quick to say, "Good job, Mom" or "You're really good at that, Dad" or "That's how you do it, Isaac." I love this quality about him! And I'm learning from him. I've heard that a child (or anyone really) needs to be encouraged 7 times for every reprimand. This is so true! We are really working on praising his accomplishments and good decisions so he does not grow weary of doing good (Galatians 6:9 Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.). Our pastor gave some really good advice to say YES! as much as possible to our children in order to build them up and so that NO really has some meaning. Well, we did it! We've survived the two's! It's been a trying year but so rewarding on many different levels! I wouldn't trade this past year for anything (but I'm thankful we're moving on...!) This little man has a heart of gold, OK iron maybe, and a will, perseverance, and determination that's equally as strong! : ) I guess he wasn't given the name 'Little Warrior' for nothing and without good purpose! Divinely, he was given to 2 parents who are just as, if not more persistent than he is! Ha! If you're gonna enter a battle with your child, you must WIN I've learned, otherwise you lose all credibility. Consistency is key with a strong-willed child! The Lord disciplines those he loves... I have to remind myself of this over and over again when I'm completely not feeling like I have the energy for another battle! Now if we can just steer that strong determination of his toward obedience and right choices, he will certainly make a difference in the world! I've read that strong-willed children have the most potential to do BIG things in life... they just need proper discipline and direction! I do have to say that I'm very thankful to be raising a strong-willed little boy verses a passive one in this day in age... it can be exhausting at times through the testing and retesting, but I know there will be great reward and good fruit outpouring from his little soul in the long run. I know my Wyatt will be a strong leader, and for this I'm very grateful! Cute little side note: When Wyatt says something to me and I don't respond and he says it again, the dialogue goes something like this: "Mom, I said I'd like more cheerios. I've said it twice. Mom, I love you too much to let you disobey!" Do you think he's heard this a time or two before? : ) I have to laugh but also remind him who's in charge! Wy guy has an imagination like you wouldn't believe! He's always telling stories and is normally dressed as a fireman, clown, policeman or a construction worker most of the day! We've even made a few trips out of the house in costume. Definitely not a battle worth fighting... And he does look pretty handsome in uniform, so how can I resist! He's got a permanent tent in his closet where we read bedtime stories at night and play 'camping' each morning! Wyatt always remembers to take his Bible to church. I think this is part of wanting to be exactly like Daddy, especially on Sunday mornings. If Daddy has on a button down and a belt, you can guarantee that's what Wy guy will be wearing too! And if Daddy isn't wearing a sweater vest then there's no hope of Mommy getting Wyatt in one either. Oh, and he never forgets hair gel and smell goods (Cologne) on Sundays either. Wyatt is very quick to remind us to pray before meals, "Oh, we forgot to pray!". Although, he usually says it as we're just sitting down at the table and haven't even had a chance to pray yet. So now Daddy and Wyatt have a lil game to see who can get to the table and remember to pray first! Wyatt loves his lil bro! He wants him to go everywhere with him now... to music school, to the movies, in his class at church, etc. And he especially likes to be the one to feed Isaac, which always requires a bath afterward. Ike doesn't seem to mind being messy at all! Don't get me wrong, they have their fair share of brotherly knock down, drag outs.... but they really do love each other and are becoming good friends! Wyatt is all about his rain gear. He wears it when it's raining or when the sun is shining, when it's 30 degrees or gets up to 80! And he has this thing with the broom, I think it's currently being used as a shoot gun! Wyatt is always protecting Mommy with his shoot guns... "Don't worry, Mom. I'll protect you. I'll shoot the bad guys!" I think I am going to be very well protected with all of these boys around! Wy guy is VERY task oriented. He wants to be a part of everything and he's a really great helper. He's very hands-on... he definitely learns by doing, not by observing! "Let me do it. Let me try. I can do it myself" is what we often hear. I've had to learn to be creative in 'educational' activity with Wyatt. He is not one for flashcards like his mama! Ha! We incorporate play dough, markers, scissors, glue and paint into just about all of our learning experiences! Here's Wyatt putting in his own hair gel. Some days he has SO MUCH gel in his hair that it is still standing straight up the next morning after he has slept on it! _______________________________________________________________
More Fun Facts About our 3-year-old:
WYATT...
  • has a huge vocabulary and enunciates so clearly. My favorite words that he uses are Actually, Professionals (He refers to he and daddy as 'professionals' when they are doing a handyman project or playing football), and snuffleupagus (from sesame street). Joe tries to stump him with silly words and long phrases like supercalifragilisticexpialidocious, but even this one he says pretty darn well!
  • There are a few mispronunciations that I just can't correct because they are too cute, including: pupcakes (cupcakes), hairplanes (airplanes), forsey (horsey), Yook! (look), and Jophes (Joseph)
  • refers to all hearts as "Happy Hearts"
  • is no longer allowed to take showers with Daddy because he's such a water hog!
  • has never been attached to anything in his 3 years of life until about a month ago. Mimi bought him a book called "Stranger in the Woods" that came with a deer (AKA the stranger in the woods) so now our son will not go to bed without his Bambi doll! : /
  • favorite color is still orange
  • loves orange tic-tacs (an after church treat), chewing gum, and pez (only during haircuts!)
  • is not a big eater. He's too busy to eat! Luckily he's not a picky eater, but he could really take it or leave it. Food is overrated in Wy's book!
  • Wyatt insists on sharing his food with you. This is great until he hands you a 'pupcake' that has all of the icing licked off, or a half eaten piece of licorice that has spit dripping out of one end! Daddy has lots of little surprises waiting for him in the refrigerator most nights. Wyatt has specific instructions to "Save it for Daddy!" This is one time where I'm really glad that Wyatt is a Daddy's boy! : )
  • is a HUGE TALKER. Oh my! He never quits (unless he's watching a movie in the car!)
  • his love language is definitely quality time, without a doubt!
  • loves music. He has every song from music school memorized (and even adds the 'rests' into his lyrics.) The radio went off one night while he was sleeping and you would have thought there was a fire! He woke up completely frantic and yelling "My music turned off! My music turned off!"
  • Names all of his animals J names: Jophes, Jericho, Jacob and James
  • has an incredible memory. Daddy says this boy has a mind like a steal trap.
  • When Wyatt calls Daddy and he doesn't answer the first time, Wyatt resorts to yelling for "Joe" or "Jojo" or "Babe" or his new one is "Honey Bee!" (He definitely didn't get this one from me!)
  • Every day when Joe gets home Wy asks daddy, "Did you shoot the bad guys?"

I'm sure I'll think of a thousand more fun facts about Wyatt after I post this, but I'd better wrap up for now... I love you, little warrior. You are my buddy and bring so much purpose to my days! You've refined and humbled my heart, you make me laugh like no other, and you've drawn me to my knees before the throne of grace more often than ever before... the Lord has placed you in my life with PURPOSE and He has so much in store for you. Of this, I'm confident! I LOVE YOU beyond measure. I love your strong character and charming wit! I love your determination and perseverance that never falter. I love your inquisitive nature that causes me to think about things that would otherwise never cross my mind... and you always force me to find an answer for your questions ("I don't know" just isn't a good enough response for you! : ) I have high hopes for this next year. We will press on to FOUR...

Isaac is 14 Months!

Photo ops are becoming almost impossible these days! These candid, in-action snapshots of Ike were the best I could do at 14 months! They are definitely reflective of who Isaac is, though... full of spunk, charm and lots of personality! He is so much FUN!
This is ISAAC'S monthly update so you are probably wondering why there is a pic of 2 kiddos other than Isaac below? Well, our good friends, the Hahns, came to KC to visit for the weekend and we got to spend Isaac's 14 month birthday with them! It was such a fun day catching up and being together. Below is Wyatt and Asher in the Hallmark Visitor's Center at Crown Center. These two boys were such good buddies... sure wish they lived closer so we could 'play' more often!
We had lunch at our house then went downtown to Kaliedoscope (Hallmark's amazing hands-on art center for kids!). As you can see, Wy guy gets intensely focused on his art projects. Isaac loved the music room... he quickly learned how to push the buttons in order for the music to play and then he was a dancing machine. It was so fun to watch him!
Back to our 14-month Ike update... He loves the mudroom (our art room!) including play dough and markers and anything that can make a mess.
Isaac's best buddy is currently his big bro. They are too cute together!
Both of my boys have this fascination with the broom? I had no clue this Wal-Mart purchase would be such a huge hit among the McCulley boys. Now if they could only make some progress using it correctly it would be very helpful for me!
Isaac is so much fun to put to bed! He still loves a bottle before he goes night night but we are trying to get him out of the habit so we often do not give him one. He doesn't fuss a bit without it but LOVES it when we do treat him with a bottle before bed!
I know most experts recommend soothing music, turning the lights down low and talking quietly to wind a baby down before bedtime. Well, Isaac responds better with just the opposite! He loves to PLAY until the very last minute when we finally shut off his light, say goodnight and blow kisses while playing peek-a-boo as we walk out of the room. And even then, if you open the door again, he's normally still standing in his crib with a big smile just hoping you'll poke your head back in the room for one more round of peek-a-boo!
Ikey bear loves his THUMB! I'm secretly hoping our next baby boy sucks his thumb too. I just think it's the cutest thing ever and keeps him super content. He's been able to soothe himself since we brought him home from the hopsital!
Love this little man.

Fun Facts About our 14-Month-Old:
ISAAC...
  • has moved from walking to RUNNING! It is the cutest to see him speed across the floor. He is FAST!
  • loves to be FUNNY! He will do just about anything to get a laugh
  • loves his thumb, bottle, and BLANKIE (we never realized he had an attachment to the blanket in his crib until it was being washed one night and he just couldn't settle in to slumber without it!).
  • likes to drink out of a STRAW. He too, like Wyatt, has completely skipped over the sippies and straight into a cup with a straw.
  • likes to clean up toys and messes... he's all about putting things away into containers.
  • loves the WATER--whether it's the swimming pool, bath tub, a puddle in the driveway, or a puddle he's created out of Gabbi's water bowl...this lil fella loves to SPLASH and get WET!
  • still only has 6 teeth. I keep thinking he's working on more but they haven't surfaced yet
  • will be a BIG BROTHER before I post his 15-month update. I'm sure he'll grow up in even more of a hurry once his lil bro arrives, but I'm savoring the moments of him being my BABY for now! I often suffer from Mommy-guilt because I don't feel like Isaac got the full experience of being a baby. We sold a house and moved across the country while I was pregnant with him, then we began planning through the same scenario when he was only four months old. We moved back across the country again when he was eight months, lived in a hotel for a couple months, bought a house and then began that whole crazy episode of settling in. All the while, right when life is starting to feel 'normal' again, we're going to add another lil fella to our family. Don't get me wrong, we are super excited for this baby's arrival, but sometimes I feel like my Ike man got cheated in way. Although, in all actuality, I think it has and will continue to serve him well. He is so FLEXIBLE and can just ENJOY LIFE wherever he is at. For this I'm so very grateful! God gave us exactly what we needed in our middle man... I love you Isaac Owen, all the way to the moon and back. And I promise you won't get skipped over or lumped in between your brothers! You have a very special place in Mommy's heart forever and for always...

Never say NEVER!

I used to say that I'd NEVER drive a minivan. Well......never say never! Sure enough, I am now 30 and driving a minivan. I officially feel older and not so cool anymore! : ) We checked out all of the SUVs, put the carseats in them, attempted to crawl to the back, etc and finally realized that the minivan was the only reasonable option with having 3 kiddos so close in age! We both agreed that the Odyssey was the coolest of vans (an oximoron, I know!) so we set out to find the right color (on the used lots, of course!). We ended up finding the best deal in Manhattan, KS... Home of the KSU Wilcats! So not only did we buy a minivan, but we bought one in my old stomping grounds and also traded in my very first car--a 1993 Honda Accord. It was a sentimental day for me! I remember thinking that Accord was the best car ever the day the keys were put in my hands but I had NO idea I'd still own it when I turned 30 and would be trading it in for a minivan of all things. Funny how life happens that way! That good old '93 Accord sure served Joe and I well through the years with over 200,000 miles and hardly a penny put in to repair. It has allowed us to be debt free (with the exception of a mortgage!) and pay cash for 2 vehicles since. Who knew my '93 Accord would be the gift that just keeps on giving. Thanks Mom and Dad! Hopefully some wise college student snatches it up and drives it another 100,000 miles. My fellas will definitely hear this story again when they turn 16! Ha! So, the minivan has been a hard pill for me to swallow, but I have to admit that it is VERY functional and I'm so grateful we've been able to make the purchase. There's just something about having the doors open with the click of a button, a back up camera, a DVD player to keep my kiddos entertained, and a potty seat in the back that make a mama very HAPPY!!!!! To my boys... when you say "I'll NEVER..." think twice, you just might somewhere down the road... And I promise I won't say I told you so (but I'll definitely be thinking it!).

Bare Chested Boys!

My boys love to run around without their shirts on! Actually, they'd prefer no clothes at all but we have a rule that they must at least wear underwear (or a diaper for Isaac!) in case the doorbell rings! Here's Wyatt showing off his big muscles for the camera!

And here's Ike feeling a little grumpy at the end of the night begging to go to bed (at 6:30pm!).

Here's big bro trying to wrestle lil bro. Isaac is defintiely not in the mood for any rough housing. I love the looks on their faces... captures their true feelings perfectly! Isaac is taddling on brother and Wyatt is appearing to feel a bit remorseful.
Love this! They are having a little conversation in the bathroom.
They have apparently made up and are ready for a shower before bed!
