Celebrating '5' Karate-Style!

We decided that age 5 would be a good year for a big birthday, or a party, that is!  We thought of lots of options and Wyatt thought that having his 5th birthday at the dojo would be the best!  Our 16 year old neighbor is a teacher at this particular karate academy so it was fun to have Jordan's involvement in the party...

With the purchase of a birthday party package at this dojo, you get 2 weeks of karate lessons and an outfit.....Wyatt wanted to do it but only if Isaac could join him.  So we pulled a few strings and they were able to do it together! :)

Here's the bd party crew....cousins Ashtyn and Dax, preschool buddies, church buddies....I think there were 17 total!

Each kiddo successfully broke a board with their bare hand....

I love Isaac's focus...

 Success!

Here's our neighbor Jordan breaking a cement block with his bare hand!

Here's the 3 who headed up the party and did a MAGNIFICENT job of teaching, helping the kids to burns tons of energy and have loads of fun!

Cousins Ellie and Alexa came later that afternoon to celebrate with Wyatt!

And a picture with Nana and Papa before they headed back home to IA

Our Little Warrior is FIVE!

How can it possibly be that my favorite firstborn is FIVE?  I'm not quite sure that I'm ready for it but he sure is!

Wyatt got his very first bayblade

He was super pumped about entering the bayblade world and was gracious in receiving his gift, but he later let me know that I picked the one bayblade that always loses the battles.  This mommy has a lot to learn about bayblades!

Muffins with Daddy before he headed to work

Micah was so excited that is was Wyatt's birthday!  First thing when he awoke, he went and got the birthday bear to bring to the breakfast table....he squeezed it's tummy over and over to make it sing happy birthday to Wyatt! :)

Ashtyn and Daxton joined us for birthday cake and some bayblade battles!

How he writes his name

and makes his own bed

and lines up his army men and squinkies in a perfect line

and still gives in to a nap every once in a while!

I LOVE this handsome face and big, blue eyes and constantly chapped lips, and full teeth grin.  You melt my heart, little warrior!

Here's Wyatt at his first Chiefs game with Daddy and buddy, Dylan!

Wyatt, thanks for introducing me to mommy-hood 5 years ago and for continuing to teach me every step of the way.  The Lord has certainly used you to refine and shape my character!  You hold a very special place in my heart!  You have the strength of a warrior, endless energy (seriously, you never run out!), a mind like a steel trap (it's unbelievable to me the details that you remember), an incredible imagination, you are very LOUD, you are a leader, you have great perseverance (you never give up!), you are super generous (always sending your friends home with a toy of yours and wanting to save/spend your money to help others), you are soooooo responsible and trustworthy (wow, do I appreciate this quality about you), you are very moderate (you know when enough is enough.....  especially with food and sugar),  quality time is definitely your love language, you are an amazing big brother, you are cautious in a very healthy sort of way (you think before you act), you are a perfectionist, make friends easy, you love technology (mostly the ipad), trio blocks, pretending with your army guys/dress up/GI Joes, etc.......................  The list could go on and on with all of your likes and strengths!  We are so incredibly thankful for your sweet life.  I LOVE you.  I'm PROUD of you.  And I'm so incredibly THANKFUL for you.  Happy 5th Birthday, Wyatt Joseph!!!!!!

A few of your quotes I documented this year:

-Why doesn't Jesus have to poop? (Because he's perfect)  Then he doesn't have a butt?
-When I get to heaven I'm going to ask God...............
-What if we all think we believe in God and then He's not real?
-I don't like Micah's name.  I want to call him Levi
-Even though I don't like getting my hands dirty, when my brothers are crying I'll still wipe their tears away (with a nastified look on your face like you just touched puke)
-Does that (something you do or say that's sweet) fill your bucket up, Mom?
-Sent Isaac a thank you note in the mail for your birthday gift

Conversation:
Me: Back up.  Don't get so close to the pond.
Wy: Don't worry about me, Mom
Me: It's my job to worry about you, Wyatt
Wy: It's not your job, the YMCA is your job!

Me: I think I'm gonna get my haircut
Wy: Is Dad going to do it?

Winter Fun, 2013

A boy after my own heart.....
I cannot believe that we have had nice enough weather in January to be outdoors without coats playing in the sand, taking pictures and climbing trees.  This momma is thankful because the great outdoors is exactly where you boys need to be!

We went to Newton for a surprise celebration in honor of Great Grandma's 80th Birthday!  Is this one beautiful 80-year-old or what?  I sure hope I've got GG's genes! :)
You had a fun time with your cousins playing in the back parking lot of the Bread Basket.
When the weather got cold, we still found plenty to do inside including dress up and shoot outs.....
wagon rides in swim trunks and a diaper....
 marshmallow pyramids....
 hunting excursions....
talking to Grandma and Papa on the ipad.....

jumping on the bed and landing in the ER.....
Did I mention that there is NEVER a dull moment???
Wyatt, you have been taught several calming techniques at preschool.  My favorite is the STAR: Stop, Take a deep breath, And Relax....I've adapted my own STAR in the midst of mahem in our home: Stop, Take a picture, And Relax!  Somehow the stopping for a picture helps me to appreciate the brevity of the moment.....  it gives me perspective in realizing that this too shall pass.  Most moments of chaos are funny memories if you can just breathe them in and survive the 20 minutes of cleanup and correction without losing your cool!  Life is too short to be frustrated or to expect perfection.....

 A trip to Power Play
A day in your PJ's, underwear and warrior paint

Valentine's.  I am BLESSED!

Chocolate straweberries!  Or just spoonfuls of chocolate for Micah!
Isaac, you needed a little help putting together your Yoda card from Grandma with only one functioning arm!
Mimi joined us for dinner and Valentine's surprises.  She always tells you boys that she loves you to the moon and back, so guess what she gave you for Valentine's?  Light up moons for your walls to serve as a nightlight and  a reminder of Mimi's love for YOU!
Wyatt, you got to go to the KS College Gameday in Lawrence with Daddy....

We finally got some tons of SNOW in February....

 Snow ice cream
 Hot chocolate
 Lots and lots of SMILES.....
